Windows Embedded Compact (WEC)

Windows Embedded Compact (TM) from Microsoft is a real-time operating system for embedded devices. It provides a real alternative to other real-time operating system (RTOS) found on the market. WEC is scalable from a minimal system with a size of a few 100 KB up to a full-scale system with a graphical user interface in a range of several megabytes.

We use Windows Embedded Compact successfully in Industrial Measurement. Many solutions, such as the MicroSAM, manage without an integrated graphic user interface, but require compliance with real-time requirements, have to communicate through a variety of interfaces and guarantee high availability and long term stability.

FORTecH Software offers a wide range of services around WEC:

  • Development of component-oriented application software based on  C++ / COM or C# / .NET
  • Implementation of WEC device drivers for the control of individual peripherals,
  • Adaptation of the WEC core to your hardware platform, implementation of OEM Adaptation Layer (OAL) and creation of the appropriate Board Support Packages (BSP),
  • Implementation of Boot loaders with update functionality
  • Generation of platforms with your applications and the associated Software Development Kits (SDK)
  • Development of system services for system-wide functions such as monitoring and logging.
